RVMPilotSchemeTopavewayforthefutureProducerResponsibilitySchemeonPlasticBeverageContainers(PPRS),theEnvironmentalProtectionDepartment(EPD)rolledoutaone-yearRVMPilotSchemeinthefirstquarterof2021totestouttheapplicationofRVMsinHongKong.Underthepilotscheme,theEPDhasinstalled60RVMsinphasesatlocationssuchaspublicplacesorgovernmentfacilitieswithsuitablefoottraffic,andprovidesaninstantrebate($0.1perplasticbeveragecontainer)viae-paymentplatformtoencouragethepublictoreturnusedplasticbeveragecontainers.Membersofthepublicmayreturnadailymaximumof30containersandredeemtherebateforeachOctopuscardorAlipay(HongKong)accountheld.Theymayalsochoosetodonatetherebate(nodailylimitimposed)todesignatedcharities(theCommunityChest,theScoutAssociationofHongKongortheHongKongGirlGuidesAssociation)tobenefitthecommunity.Alltheplasticbeveragecontainerscollectedwouldbedeliveredtosuitablelocalrecyclers,asarrangedbytheGovernment-appointedcontractor,toensureproperrecycling.FirstbatchofRVMshasbeenputintoservicesinceJanuary2021.
